A Preview into Saturday's Grand Finals

Premier League Grand Finals are finally upon us. With 4 games at UTAS Stadium on Saturday 20th of September, it is set to be a big day capping off the newly formed Premier League competition.

Game 1: South Launceston U18s vs. Launceston U18s - 8:45am

You cannot split these two sides, both clubs have been dominant in the 2025 Under 18 season finishing 1st & 2nd on the same number of points, only losing 1 game to each other in the home and away season. South Launceston will look to continue their ripe form from previous years winning the premiership in 2024 and narrowly missing the 2023 Grand Final after losing in the Preliminary final by 1 point against Old Scotch.

Launceston has had a near dream run in 2025, finishing as minor premiers and having all club success with all 4 of their sides playing in Grand Finals on Saturday. There is not much that separates these 2 clubs, and the result could go either way. Pack into UTAS Stadium early to watch a quality game of Under 18s football on the best ground in the north!

Last 3 matchups:

South Launceston def. Launceston by 8 points

Game 2: South Launceston Reserves vs. Launceston Reserves - 10:55am

Similar to that of the Under 18s, there isn't much that separates these 2 sides both finishing 1st and 2nd on the home & away ladder. South Launceston fell just short of a flag in 2024 going down to Longford in the big dance. On the other hand, Launceston have transitioned nicely from the TSL to the NTFA with all 4 teams into the Grand Finals.

The 2025 Premier League Reserves goal kicking leaderboard was dominated by South Launceston, having 3 players inside the top 4 including a 1st place for Jonathon Lawrence. Not far behind in 2nd was Sonny Whiting from the Launceston Football Club. You will not want to miss this one, with tickets on the gate all day!

Game 3: South Launceston Women vs. Launceston Women - 1:15pm

South Launceston vs. Launceston, 1st vs 4th, two big teams in the Women's space. South Launceston has had a near dream run in 2025 only losing 2 games in the home and away season against Scottsdale & Deloraine earlier in the season. The Bulldogs will look to continue their late season momentum into Saturday as they take on red-hot Launceston in what will be a ripper match. South Launceston have had the wood over their rivals this year beating them by 64, 14 & 22 points on different occasions in 2025.

Launceston finished 4th on the ladder in the H&A season, finishing on 9 wins & 6 losses. Launceston faced some major hurdles to make it all the way to the big dance on Saturday having to beat both Scottsdale in the 1st Semi Final & Deloraine in the Preliminary final, booking their spot to the Grand Final. All eyes will be turned to the women at 1:15pm at UTAS Stadium on Saturday as both teams will be having a red-hot crack at lifting the 2025 Premier League Senior Women Premiership Cup! Who wins this one?

Game 4: North Launceston Men vs. Launceston Men - 3:15pm

This is it, the final match of the 2025 NTFA season, with old TSL rivals North Launceston & Launceston battling it out for glory on Saturday. It is safe to say that North Launceston's season has set the benchmark for the top brand of football in Northern Tasmania, transitioning over from the TSL they have carried their momentum from their 2024 Grand Final win into this season not losing a game and winning comfortably almost all season. North Launceston's stars will get to work once more on Saturday as they look to close in on yet another premiership win.

After 3 previous matches of cheering for their fellow blues, Launceston Senior Men's side will look to go out and cause an upset on the undefeated minor premiers. Only a number of weeks ago in the 2nd Semi Final when Launceston faced their cross-town rivals, they saw themselves trailing by 8 points at half-time, with an upset and ticket to the Grand Final in sight, but North Launceston turned up the heat in the second half kicking 11 goals to 0 to cement North's place in the Grand Final. A week prior, in round 16 at Windsor Park, Launceston nearly got to the mark only losing to North by 13 points, North's lowest winning margin for the year.

Who to watch? Alex Lee has been superb for North Launceston all year, the ruckman has featured several times in the best players and is a regular Premier Data superstar, once he gets going he is hard to stop. Launceston Coach, Jake Hinds has also been on fire this season, with 13 best player selections out of 18 games so far, Jake is also a regular feature on Premier Data statistics highlighted on the NTFA Facebook page.
